Community Outreach Programs in Addictions ( COPA)

COPA works with people 55 years and older with addictions in Toronto through outreach programs which are innovative and nonjudgmental. We provide outreach services to older adults by going to where they are. We work with them in their own homes, retirement homes, long term care facilities or while they are experiencing homelessness.
COPA provides services to the many marginalized and isolated individuals who may not be able to access other addictions and/or community services. We use a harm reduction approach that does not require initial acknowledgment of an addictions issue or a goal of abstinence

Mission Statement:

COPA is a community organization providing holistic, innovative and non- judgmental addictions, concurrent disorders and problem gambling service to older persons and the community focusing on our three pillars:

• Outreach – responsive service to clients in the community, in their own homes, shelters, boarding homes, long term care homes or on the street
• Harm Reduction - it is not necessary for clients to acknowledge addiction problems or reach complete abstinence in order for meaningful change to take place
• Independence – focus on empowerment, self-determination and the best possible quality of life
